Collections provides two ways to stop a client receiving a statement. The difference is how broadly and how long each control applies.
Skip Statement
Skip Statement acts on the single draft currently on screen. The ability to skip a single statement is only available if your firm has not yet automated Smart Statements. It dismisses that draft without changing the client's trigger configuration. When the trigger runs again, a fresh draft can appear.
Use it for a one-off situation—for example, when a payment is already in flight or a partner recently contacted the client and the current reminder would be redundant.
Enable statement emails
The Enable statement emails toggle acts on the client until someone turns it blue again:
- For firms that have not automated Smart Statements, turning the toggle grey stops new statement drafts from being generated.
- For firms using automated Smart Statements, turning the toggle grey stops statements from being delivered.
Suppressed drafts do not accumulate. While statement emails are disabled, the client is removed from Collections and appears on the Clients Excluded from Collections list in Settings. This list reflects the same setting as the client-level toggle; it is not a separate exclusion. The client's record also shows that statements are disabled.
Use this control when a client is disputing a balance, negotiating a payment plan, or has been promised that collection messages will pause.
How to choose
Ask whether the reason should expire by itself:
- If yes, skip the current statement.
- If someone must decide when chasing restarts, turn off statement emails.
Neither control changes the client's balance, aging buckets, or collections configuration.
