Use variables to standardize the name of each project. When a project is created from a template, the variables fill in with the client, engagement, or project data, so every project from the same template follows the same naming pattern.
Each variable should be formatted with two curly braces on each side of the placeholder name. For example, {{client.name}}.

Use variables in a project name
- Open a project template's settings, or create or edit a project.
- In the Project Description enter the variables as they're listed in the tables above.
Build the rest of the name around it, for example
{{project.project_year}} 1040 Return.
Notes
- Use
project.project_year, notproject.start_year, for tax-year naming. Project Year is the field used on rollovers, so the year in the name updates when the project rolls over, and prior-year work such as an amendment keeps the right year in its name. - If a variable has no value on the project (for example, no Project Year is set), it renders blank. Projects created before rollovers existed have no Project Year, so set it on those projects first.
- You can edit the generated project name manually after the project is created.
