A firm user who can access a client's Client Portal can modify the client's Recurring Payment plan or skip one upcoming scheduled payment. These actions work differently: modify the plan from Settings, or skip a single payment from Payments.
Modify a Recurring Payment plan
You can modify a Recurring Payment plan at any time. Changes can include:
- Payment frequency
- Payment amount
- Payment method
Steps
- Log into the Firm Portal.
- Select Clients in the left side menu.
- Find the client.
- In the Actions column, select the three dots, then select Client Portal View.
- In the Client Portal, select the Settings tab.
- Find the Recurring Payment plan you want to modify.
- Select the box and pencil icon on the far right.
- Update the payment frequency, amount, or payment method.
- Select Save.
When a firm user modifies a Recurring Payment, the firm user who made the change and the client's billing contacts or Client Portal users receive an email notification.
AutoPay and Recurring Payments are both set up under Settings, but they work differently. AutoPay makes a monthly payment toward invoice balances, up to a configured amount or with no maximum. A Recurring Payment uses a predefined frequency, amount, start date, and end date.
Skip a scheduled Recurring Payment
You can skip an upcoming scheduled Recurring Payment as long as its scheduled date has not occurred.
A skipped payment cannot be restored. Its amount is not added to later payments in the plan, and skipping does not notify the firm or client.
Steps
- Log into the Firm Portal.
- Select Clients in the left side menu.
- Find the client.
- In the Actions column, select the three dots, then select Client Portal View.
- In the Client Portal, select the Payments tab.
- Find the scheduled Recurring Payment you want to skip.
- Select the three dots, then select Skip.
- Select Save Changes.
There is no separate firm-user permission for these actions. Any firm user who can access the client's Client Portal can modify the Recurring Payment plan or skip a scheduled payment on the client's behalf.
