Cancel an engagement when your firm no longer wants the engagement letter to remain in force. Canceling is irreversible: a canceled engagement cannot be reopened, resent, edited, or renewed. If the client needs a letter, create a new engagement.
If a letter was executed and then canceled, the PDF of the executed engagement is still available for download in the Firm Portal, but is no longer visible to the client in the Client Portal.
Canceling is a good alternative to deleting an engagement when you need to end it but keep its record in the engagements list. Canceling and deleting are controlled by separate permissions: Cancel engagements and Delete Engagement.
Before you start
- You need the Cancel engagements permission. This applies to executed engagements as well; there is no separate permission gate for signed letters.
- Confirm the decision with the responsible partner, especially for an executed engagement.
- Canceling does not notify the client. The signing link stops working when the engagement is canceled.
Cancel an engagement
- Open the engagement record.
- Select Cancel.
- Review the confirmation prompt and select Confirm. You do not need to provide a reason.
The engagement remains in the engagements list with a Canceled status.
If an engagement letter was sent and then canceled, the client does not need to set up a payment method or make a prepayment for that engagement.
